I read John Gruber’s Markdown syntax page in Markdown and realized this is as close as I ever want to get to HTML. I like his philosophy of Markdown as a language for writers, not publishers. However, his bias against putting > before the first line of a hard wrapped paragraph (as opposed to a separate > for each printed line) in a blockquote is precisely backwards. It is supremely efficient and Markdown-like, email be damned.
