Do we spend our time thinking about how different things are or how similar? I suppose this is a fundamental difference in personality types, and could go a long way toward explaining how difficult it is for such people to understand each other. I do not assume one group has a better perspective on truth than the other. In fact, I’m sure they are fundamentally conjoined. The question then is which side would I rather work from? I think my default is to see difference. And this immediately makes me want to pit each side against the other. But according to what scale? And why is it so important to say here is where you differ, and therefore why I like you better than the other? Why can’t I say instead here is how you are similar and from this perspective I will seek to understand our differences?
