One of the small advantages to no longer being in academic circles is that I can read anyone without worrying how it will be received. I vaguely recall an unfavorable air surrounding Cantor as a historian. Perhaps he was too deadly a combination of Modernist and popular? Be that as it may, he is a gifted thinker and makes for fruitful reading. Never confuse whether or not you agree with someone with whether or not he or she is valuable to read. A common mistake to this day.
