There Can Only Be One

Watching Highlander for the second time. In some ways it’s as awful as I remember. In others, it’s clear why it’s such a cult classic.

The scene where Connor MacLeod returns to the tavern after being presumed dead was striking. His kinsmen and lover not only turn away from him, they drag him through the streets and try to kill him. And perhaps not surprisingly, his former lover leads the mob.

It is a good, if painful, reminder of how precious few people who claim to love you really do. Most will turn on you in an instant should you cease to be who they expect.
