The Faceless

The Faceless seem like less of a band and more of an idea.

It’s not just their fluid, ship of Theseus line-up. It’s their speed and polish. It’s almost machine-like in its precision. Much of track 2 of Autotheism sounds less like a song and more like an experiment in the limits of sound. It’s certainly awe-inspiring, especially to a musician, but is it musical? I suppose yes, it is musical insofar as it is a song. But the undeniable influence of bands like Opeth, Enslaved and Dream Theater leave me wishing for them, not for what I’m hearing.

Why is that? Perhaps because there is no real distinguishing mark other than inhuman technical proficiency fumbling for the magic of the bands they love.
